Disturbed in Silence

Disturbed’s performance of Sound of Silence last week on Conan is the “vision that was planted in my brain”. It still remains and  I just want to thank the band for 6666666666666666666 sorry key had some stuff on it. Seriously, there’s actually some still there.

Anyway, at the time of this writing there are 1,686,287 views on the YouTube video and I must have added at least eighty. In two days. It’s sick.  I can’t stop listening to it. When I’m not listening to it I hear it in my head.

EDIT: I just listened again and came back to finish this. See? It’s not good.

This rendition has a creeping and tremulous crescendo that is frightening when combined with Draiman’s vocals.  My emotions are manipulated with ease and I feel the “cold and damp”. I’m afraid when I see the “ten thousand people maybe more.” The “neon god” has been referred to as technology and it’s strange how I watched, only today, people sitting in a line on the bus all staring at (“people talking without speaking”) their phones.

Then, Draiman hits the line “people writing songs that voices never share” and my heart breaks for humanity. The ideas never seen by those we’ll never know. It’s an instant and poignant reminder. It inspires me to write and paint and create and free whats trapped in my head.

Paul Simon (Simon & Garfunkel) sent an email to Draiman shortly after he saw it. He liked it, too. http://ultimateclassicrock.com/paul-simon-disturbed-sound-of-silence/

The way this song is written has always fascinated me. How your viewpoint shifts. Is the person awake or still dreaming? It’s mysterious and dark and intriguing, like a dream. But now, thanks to Disturbed, now it scares me. It fucking haunts me. And I can’t get enough.

Thank you.

I tell stories. I always have. I write and I paint and I train. Everyday. I love movies and comic books. I've been an extra in an Oscar Nominated HBO Movie. I hitch-hiked across the country. I laugh, I love and I bleed. Just like you. We share something very special, you and I. Life. Send me an email if you're interested in having me be an extra (starring roles considered) or if you'd like a fridge magnet. I paint them. They're really cool.
